About Us

In the Diocese of Shrewsbury the Bishop is assisted in his responsibilities for the planning, organisation and management of Catholic schools and colleges by the Diocesan Education Department through the work of the Diocesan Education Service whose overall role is to promote the well being of all Catholic schools and colleges in the Diocese.  They do so for the sake of all Catholic parents and children, and for the common good of the Catholic Community as a whole. Based in the Curial Office, our Education Service team gives advice and support for school leadership, curriculum Religious Education, administration, and the appointment of staff and governors. The Education Service works in close partnership with the eleven local authorities in the diocese so as to provide a credible network of Catholic schools for our Catholic children and their parents.Team members provide a liaison with the Catholic Education Service, other dioceses, central government and local authorities.

Christ at the Centre Course for Primary Practitioners
This is a four module course with the aim of supporting teachers in their nurturing of "religiously literate and engaged children who have the knowledge, understanding and skills - appropriate to their age and capacity - to reflect spiritually, and think ethically and theologically, and who are aware of the demands of religious commitment in everyday life" RE Curriculum Directory Intended participants: All teachers in the primary setting, though particularly for those who would welcome more support in the teaching of RE and the celebration of prayer and liturgy in our Catholic schools. School Governor CPDF opportunities 2025-26
CPDF Programme for school governors includes: Virtual Induction sessions for governors new to the role or wishing to update their knowledge - one session within 12 months after the appointment. Virtual termly Briefings for Governing Bodies are an opportunities to update Governing Bodies and Academy Trust on key changes in schools and academies arising from new legislation or guidance from CES and DfE - one session each term. In-person Chair and Vice Chair meetings aim is to provide opportunities for discussion, collaboration and support - one session each term. In-person Induction for New Chair of Governors session is essential for Governors new to the role. Catholic Certificate of Religious Studies 2025-2026
